A focus blocker that also runs the rest of your PC.
Freedom and Cold Turkey block apps and websites, and that is all they do. Seqtrix Focus Lock blocks the same things with a strength you pick in advance, Soft, Firm or Hard, and the block is one step in a sequence that can close the apps first, mute the machine, encrypt a folder and reopen Slack when the session ends. Where the other two still win, the table says so.

What Freedom and Cold Turkey lack
A Seqtrix sequence can close Slack and Discord, start a Firm 90-minute Focus Lock, pause media, and on the end show a toast and reopen Slack. It starts from a hotkey, a schedule, a Mini Mode ring slot or your voice. A blocker app stops at the block.
Soft ends any time. Firm ends after a 24-character code, a delay rather than a wall. Hard cannot be ended, survives a killed process, a restart and a clock change, and allows one emergency exit per 7 days that takes effect 10 minutes later. Nobody else bundles a delayed exit.
AES-256-GCM file encryption, DoD-grade secure delete, password-locked folders, and a Panic hotkey that locks Master Mode, mutes and locks Windows within a few seconds. The focus tool and the security tool are one install.
Raycast Focus now runs on Windows too, and documents no strict lock at all.
When Freedom or Cold Turkey is still the right tool
- • The distraction lives on your phone. Seqtrix is Windows only; Freedom covers iOS and Android as well as Mac and Windows, and Cold Turkey covers Mac.
- • You want website blocking inside the browser. Both ship browser extensions. Seqtrix blocks sites through the hosts file in this release, which a browser with its own DNS-over-HTTPS provider can bypass.
- • You want to pay once and never again. Cold Turkey Pro is a one-time purchase and Freedom sells a Forever plan. Seqtrix sells passes: free forever on Starter, or 30 days or a year of Advanced, paid once with no auto-renewal.
For a Windows PC where the block should be one step in a routine, and where the same app should also lock your files, Seqtrix is the better fit.
FAQ
Partly. Seqtrix Starter is free and includes Focus Lock at the Soft strength, which closes a blocked app within a second for the length of the session and can be ended from the ring or the app. Cold Turkey keeps app blocking and its lock modes behind its one-time Pro purchase. The Firm and Hard strengths and website blocking are on the Seqtrix Advanced plan, $4.99 per 30 days paid once, and every install gets a 15-day Advanced trial.
Both allow one early end every 7 days. Freedom ends the session at once; Seqtrix takes effect 10 minutes after you ask and logs the request in the run history, so the exit is a cooling-off period rather than a button. A Hard session also survives a killed process, a restart and a system clock change through a watchdog task, and ends at its scheduled end.
It blocks them through the hosts file, so Edge and Chrome, and Firefox when it uses the Windows resolver, all show the local "Focused until" page. A browser configured with its own DNS-over-HTTPS provider can bypass hosts entries, and HSTS-preloaded sites show the browser’s own error page instead of the local page. Freedom and Cold Turkey use browser extensions for the website side, which is why that row goes to them.
No. Seqtrix runs on Windows 10 and 11 only. If the distraction you need to block lives on your phone, Freedom covers iOS and Android and is the right tool for that half of the problem.
The lock itself does. One difference: on the seqtrix.com installer, uninstalling Seqtrix is refused while a Hard session runs; the Store build cannot refuse an uninstall, because Windows owns the uninstall of Store apps. If you want Hard to mean hard, install from seqtrix.com.
